Reflection - CCR
Hello blog, I’ll be reflecting on the music video today. Enjoy the inside of my thoughts I possibly left out in other blogs.
How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
In my group's production we picked the song ‘Young dumb and broke’. Our instructure gave us free creativity with our songs, though to not follow along with the songs lyrics completely or copy the artist's existing video. I thought about this for a long idea and my partner and I shot ideas at each other. Though when it actually came to planning and creating the story board it felt rushed and over procrastinated. That's what can explain the missing storyline or lack of overall social group or issue.
The genre of the songs is R&B which is often a sequence of khalid's movie in which i researched getting more inspiration for the music video. Though I still felt like something was missing, I had no creative ideas for the actual video that me and my partner could agree on. We later just agreed to a short music video like that of a self portrait. This was not originally a part of our planning blog, just thrown in at the last minute. Though it did capture and amazing shots and in the final piece it does look amazing.
Our video represents highschoolers, like that of the ‘young’ part in the title or the continuous lyrics of “high schools, kids”. Though another representation that can be identified that is light and almost hard to notice is in the beginning of the video in the library. The scene can be seen through a scope of struggling with studies and over focusing on schools. This alone is very bad and many highschoolers struggle with this along with self confidence. Though not all represented in the video I feel like it can be determined through anyone's personal opinion though. So overall to not over analyze the short beginning of the video i will say its ‘just a fun loving video’.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The piece of media of the music video can be distributed through streaming platforms. Usually in situations of a music video being produced, it’s to attract viewers and give them a visual representation of the artist's significant artistic pieces possibly left out of the story being represented. So like that or a normal project being uploaded, youtube is always the first option. Though for copyright issues vimo was used.
When publishing a music video artist will always want some sort of media attention, good or bad. However with our project the surrounding viewers we looked for were high schoolers. That is a little brod group but in a more simple way to put it, the high schoolers who just want to have fun but constant work is pulling them down. The fun part of our video was to show the significant part of going out and enjoying teenage years.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I’ve learned a short term of new words, and more ways to talk more in my blogs. Though the process of planning and strategies, a schedule and sequences for filming was important too. I constantly needed to work around school, homework, my job, and the reminders from my partner to film myself. In the middle of the project I honestly hoped it would end even quicker. I even put aside a lot of the work procrastinating on some of my final blogs. However, it did teach me a lesson on planning for big groups and introducing plans for filming. Always give an advancement and lead out a schedule that works for everyone. Finally, never try to accommodate one person. For that specific part of planning it also did make me realize I was not the best for actually filming with the camera but getting planning across and making possible ideas for work. What I mean is when my partner was filming me I would suggest certain things we could do or tweak and change some ideas if we did not agree, but when I actually held the camera it felt off. Or I could possibly film the same shot again and again and it did not seem right. Another thing I learned was the cost of production, well not completely. The money spent really made me realize how much more significant money goes into filming. In planning blogs me and my partner said it would be cost efficient because it is supposed to just go through the life of highschoolers. But even with that budget in mind, it completely flew over our heads being ignored. I even completely wrote up a blog on this issue of filming. I don't think my partner completely acknowledged it but some props of that of the pumpkins, donuts, and ubering place..etc, etc. were not cheap and should not be ignored. It made me actually appreciate that this was not a high budget production like that of a certain music video, with high tech cameras, sound systems, props, and flashy editing.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
When filming our high tech camera was our brilliant iphone 13. Not to even sound sarcastic but some music videos have actually been filmed on iphone 13s and have come out to be amazing getting almost millions of likes (Eta - by new jeans) not that ours can really compare too much. Much more filming was done from my partner's phone. There were a range of reasons like that my phone case made my filming look odd, I was the main character so it was harder to get good angles by myself, another is a good majority of the videos i sent to my partner were just scrapped, “it didn’t fit the aesthetic”.
For the blogs we used google blogger, it is free and easily accessible from your google gmail. I use all types of google soles, especially google docs, so i was of course shocked about google blogger but it did greatly help with uploading rather than completely making my own website.
Finally for our editing we used the amazing capcut app. Capcut has a large range of editing icons along with the fact it is free. I've also used the app multiple times before this class. Understanding how to use it was not the issue, but using the knowledge I know and creating something relatively nice was a little hard. I was also not really able to see the video being made until my partner let me. I really took it intuitively with editing the sound, especially the dialogue and surrounding sound with transitioning with the fade in/out of the song. When editing the library clips, I replayed it about 20 times just to make the clicking of the keyboard sound complement the music lightly playing in the back. And with more of the editing I shortened a few clips and completely helped discard some, only being left with the final opinion.
In the end of the blog I did enjoy recording, but I am in much happier it’s over. Thank you for watching and following along with the blogs for this eventful music video.
